Hiking:
Hikers get their moneys worth in light of the
geological and geographical variety of the area. There are a few excellent
guidebooks that lead to little known valleys, canyons, mountains and plains. Windsurfing, Swimming and Sailing:
Lake Salagou is well known to the
windsurfer. The almost deserted shores of this protected lake beg to be
discovered, and always look inviting as a base for swimming with water
temperatures often at 28° in summer. With motor boats banned, sailing is a
pleasure, and you can hire boats from near the sailing school at the Eastern end
of the lake. The shores, accessible to the public, offer a choice of long sandy
beaches, small protected bays or rocky coves. Fishing:
Anglers will find the biggest carp in Europe. The
Salagou waters have a very rich fish population. Thanks to numerous waterplants
some unusual species can develop here at a depth of 4-5 meters. There are
predatory fish, whiting shoals, carp, zander, pike and perch.Very good catches
are possible ! Bird watching
Vast forests and original, unspoilt nature make for a
true paradise for birds. Come and enjoy the singing of the nightingale and the
hooting of the owl in the otherwise undisturbed silence of the night. Watching Stars :
The clear skies of the Languedocian hills are well
known and villages, free of light contamination, can still be found here. Enjoying wine:
Pézènes borders on the famous wine growing
area of Faugères, with its schist based soils. This means that there are many
small producers that you can visit and learn how the wine is produced and sample
their range of reds, whites and rosés These are within easy reach of Pézenes
which therefore provides an ideal base for winetasting tours.
